First impressions are pretty good. This is a much friendlier environment than where I was before.
‘What?’ they empty our trash cans? No way!
‘What?’ free soda? No way! None of the telco offices I have been in have done that in the last five years! Awesome!
Meeting the team. Trying to identify who’s who in the zoo ends up being a little challenging as I swear every other person I met was named Kelly – my notes are a hoot! I wrote, ‘Met with Kelly P. She is the wig.’ Followed by ‘Met with Kelly G. She thinks she is a wig.’ Noted this could be trouble. I met a few more folks. There are a smattering of names throughout my randomized notes, but it ends with meeting a couple more Kellys with randomized spellings of their names in an effort to differentiate them from each other.
Bright idea – ask for a RACI. This request was met with laughter. Oiy vey, this was going to be challenging, but there are plenty of opportunities for improvement.
Great – let’s move on from the people, what are the projects?
I was provided a list of projects. Great, but this sure seems like a lot of work for how few resources we have available. This statement was greeted with a smile as it was explained to me that was one of the goals for me – fix this problem. I love challenges, so this could be a lot of fun.
